Without such context there can BE no message; without such : context there can BE no aesthetics. I would agree with you here, I agree on taking intent into account, but sometimes there is no message. : That's tough shit for Ratatouille, and just because you don't want the : artist's feelings hurt is no excuse to use a paradigm that prohibits any : real examination of a work and makes everybody worse off. I don't think the whole "dead author" thing was supposed to be literal-- works with live authors have been given this treatment plenty, regardless of their feelings.
