In Response To: Feminist Analysis of TFoR (Dragonclaws) : I've also got one on Covenant colors and their legitimizing of pink and : purple. Very interesting analysis here, I hadn't actually thought about the Covenant's colors in a long time. And that was a great point about the Elite's blood color being associated with the color of their blood. Though that may have just been a coincidence. I think the big thing with the purple is just to make the Covenant quite obviously alien. The olive drab colors that we associate the UNSC and modern day military colors with is mostly because those are the colors of the battlefield. It matches their surroundings, which is usually covered in neutral earth tones. But then you see a big elegant purple ship and you automatically think "well, that's definitely not from Earth".
