It also needs to be undestood by looking at the reader; I've seen plenty of critics bring steamer-trunks of personal baggage into their readings of a text and thereby derive some really heinous interpretations of it and of the authour's psyche. -- Steve's often pondered advocating "the critic is dead" as the next wave of lit.crit. just to see where that ends up.
