I just listened to your Covenant colors analysis and unless I missed something (a possibility since I was tired (not a dig on your commentary, it's just late)), you missed talking about Bungie's history with purple and pink in their games. Namely the fact that the Covenant's use of purple is more or less an expansion of a visual theme started by Bungie in Marathon with the Pfhor (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9tAGN5zh98k). The colors have been featured prominently in Bungie games since then also, for example Oni with Konoko's (and kinda Shinatama's) hair (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pudORWMspIA). There were even enemies in earlier Bungie games who were pinkish/purplish. So while Halo certainly furthered whatever subliminal purple and pink message Bungie has been beaming into our brains for the better part of twenty years, it wasn't really the start of their emphasis of it.
