I had this large post decently written in reply to Wu bringing up how the Chief hardly had anything to do with the drop in sales over time or whatever and how it was the fact that in 2007 a game called Call of Duty 4 launched an empire and MW2 only had ODST to compete, but I didn't like the tone it was conveying (when I wasn't intending to convey such a tone). The fact of the matter is that Halo had zero competition beyond some sucky PS3 titles up until right when H3 launched. Reach's online multiplayer population has surpassed H3's which shows there is an upward trend. MW3 should be terrible (though the "average gamer" probably won't get that memo). H4 is going to have to be damn good if they want to see the sales growth of prior games, especially now in a day and age where not just Call of Duty is competing, but games like Assassin's Creed that are consistently awesome come out at the same time of year. I get that Phil Spencer is looking forward and the marketing for ODST and Reach (which, if you cared to search back, you'll find me complaining about) wasn't as great as it could have been, but acting like Master Chief is the way to solve that and saying they went the wrong way with ODST and Reach just doesn't seem like a genuine complaint. I've already bitched about the marketing for H1A and H4, and they have hardly shown anything for both! If Phil Spencer really thinks going back to the way things were will take care of things, especially now when Call of Duty owns the world, competition is thicker, and the marketing sucks, he's probably going to be in for a lot of disappointing charts and graphs.
