In Response To: Welp, looks like Microsoft has no idea about Halo (Avateur) : And people have absolutely loved : Reach and many have even dared to say that Reach or ODST are the best Halo : games of them all. Personally my favorite games go: Halo 1, Halo 3, Halo 2, ODST, Reach. : And let's hit Phil Spencer in the face with his own... well why go the route : of personal insults? This is clearly a hit piece on Bungie. Notice how he : doesn't so much as mention Halo Wars? I guess no one lost their way there! : Microsoft produced it so it was clearly a blast and great and right on : track! But ODST and Reach? Oh no. We lost our way. When I think of Halo games I don't consider Halo Wars either (note how I left it out up top). : The way I view this is that Phil Spencer really, really wants to drive Halo : into the ground. He wants Microsoft to release the same thing over and : over and over with some minor updates like with Call of Duty. ODST and : Reach provided a much needed break from Master Chief and his story, a five : year break by the time Halo 4 comes out. It makes coming back to Master : Chief all the more exciting and fun, and allows for those people who he : stated entered Reach without knowing what Halo is all about to pick up the : Chief and, if Halo 4 rocks, say "wow, I need to get me those other : Halo games" and get themselves right into what makes the Chief so : great. I definitely would've preferred to play MC in Reach or as Red/Blue team. People that I consider to actually matter... not Spartan IIIs that die every other cutscene. I relate with MC on a personal level and I've never connected with the Rookie or Noble 6. : I get that 343 Industries is technically Microsoft, but I would really like : to hope that they aren't stupid enough to listen to these inane thoughts. : If 343 Industries can come up with an idea for an awesome game set in the : Halo universe that has nothing to do with Master Chief, and if it's well : written and they think they can pull it off, I absolutely want them to : take the risk. This whole "needs more [or only] Master Chief" : mentality is pretty weak. So hey 343 Industries, yeah Microsoft is your : boss, but people like Phil Spencer have no idea about what makes Halo good : or what makes Halo be Halo. Do your thing and ignore the clueless people : who only want to milk this franchise right into oblivion. There's a lot of things that make Halo, Halo to me. If I had to boil it down to the largest piece, I would say it's Master Chief (or the Spartans IIs in general). Just like Star Wars has the Jedi. Sure there are some neat side stories with Boba Fett. But that's all that they are: side stories. Nice little additions that are cute but overall meaningless to the canon. If I had to pick between the story of Boba Fett living through that sand hole he fell into or the greatest Jedi/Sith changing the fate of the universe forever I'm going to choose the latter. It's much more important to the story and (in my opinion) more interesting. Haven written all of that I still think that Halo 3 should've been the last Halo period. We finished the fight, the universe was saved and the Covenant dismantled. The only real loose end was the Flood (still not happy that there was no Truth/Gravemind boss battle). The Flood were only delayed in their galactic conquest. If Halo 4-6 address these issues than I'll buy them for closure. If they don't I'll buy them if the multiplayer looks fun.
