I saw his quote as a motivator to start talking about why the Chief IS cool, but to look directly at his words... I have a feeling he probably wasn't trying to intentionally alienate the consumers who DID enjoy the last few games. :)

Remember when someone quoted Peter Jackson saying a Halo movie wouldn't have worked, or wouldn't have been good? The forum didn't enjoy that either! :)

I can understand people's reactions to such a quote (I know Mr. Spencer's quote made me go "Arggh" at first) but it's important to note that such things are being said by people looking forward at their next project. We don't always say things in the perfect, politically correct way when we're talking, especially when we're focused on one direction, and looking back the other way with hindsight.

If I was working on a new comic in the future, hypothetically I might say in conversation with someone that "I screwed up Fistful of Arrows." (I don't think I did - remember, 'hypothetically'- don't go telling all the news sites :P). That doesn't mean I think an audience is foolish for liking it, it means from my perspective at the time I personally had an issue with it. And I didn't think about phrasing it in a way to not possibly 'slap it in the face'.
