In Response To: Re: Upset with Halo2 gameplay? You're not alone. L (Strangepurple) : I think the point all of YOU are failing to see, is regardless of our
Strangepurple, I've seen videos of you, and I respect your skill. I know you have a deeper understanding of what makes top-level Halo click far more than 90% (including me) of the posters in this thread. However, there are several things wrong, or just strange (no pun intended) about your post. First: The fact that they gave you three years with Halo 1 and its "unbalanced balance" (a term I just made up to describe the at once unbalanced and at the same time equal-opportunity death-weapon, the pistol) doesn't mean they are, or ever were, obligated to keep the game the same. Second: Looking at the sales charts proves nothing. A VERY small percentage of those who kept buying Halo after three years were the hardcore elite. Most just bought it because it was a great game. Their buying had nothing to do with the pistol. Third: Your definition of "keeping the franchise close to the original" is stricter than I can possibly imagine. As I've said in previous posts, Bungie stuck with the formula-that-works for Halo 2. They changed the weapons around, and the levels, and added a few features here and there, but it's still Halo, it still feels like Halo, and if you can't see that you're lying or blind. If you defined "Halo" as "the pistol", you have no one but yourself to blame for that. Halo was much more; it was meant to be much more. Finally: "I feel this way because Halo and every single little detail about it became so loved by us that we did not need or want any changes." That is incredibly obstinate, and just plain dumb. How could you not want changes? It's a sequel, not at expansion pack. "Halo 1 with XBL support" is NOT "Halo 2". If you literally wanted no changes, I don't know what planet you grew up on. Since when do developers not change games for the sequel? No, really. Since when? I can't think of any good reason to be that backwards. I mean, I can even entertain the (ridiculous) notion of keeping the original pistol in Halo 2, but to "not want any changes"? What the hell? I'm not bashing the MLG thread, but it seems there are just as many fanboys there. Only this time, they're Halo 1 fanboys. Get with the program, guys. Let's all be realistic. --MikeMan |
