This is the part I can't get my head around. It's no secret that Halo 2 was going to be different from Halo 1 in many substantial areas. Dual wielding is an example, and has been public for sometime. So is the lack of the pistol.

At these points in time, it should have been clear that Halo 1, this was not. For those who play professionally, this should have been evident long ago. Yet, everyone seems "surprised", and (this is where I can't get my head around it) don't (won't) take the time to invest Halo 2, which is clearly different from the first.

It's easy to say "well, if you don't like it, stick to Halo 1". But I don't want to take the easy road. Instead, where are the strengths of Halo 2? I've seen posts that say something like "we've figured this game out. It won't get any better, so it sucks." Is that truly fair? Has anyone really taken the time to examine all of the dimensions of this game?

I think Count Zero is on the right track (in some post I can't remember where at the moment). There is something to be said about team play that I think is untapped in Halo 2 at the moment. I think there are many aspects that are untapped as of today that are worth the time in finding out.

If you're unwilling to invest the time to unlock the potential of Halo 2, someone else may, assuming there is potential to be unlocked. If there is, there will be a changing of the guard is it applies to pro players. If there isn't there's nothing for you to worry about.

My point is, isn't it a bit too early to pass judgement on this game, simply because it's different from the gameplay world of Halo 1?

I've seen posts talking about the skill needed to defeat your opponent "has lessened dramatically, making it easier for a moderate player to be playing on the same level as an expert player". You know what? Tough. Adapt. Overcome. Find out what you need to do to step it up in Halo 2. Maybe it's not about weapon selection & power, but rather position and partnership. Who knows? But until people invest the time to find out, we'll never know.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, yes, Halo 2 is different from Halo 1, in many respects. Therefore, to expect Halo 2 to play / feel the exact same as Halo 1 is unfair.

I'm not saying you (and alot of others) are wrong. I just think some of the reasons given are unfair, and judgements passed impatiently. Of course, time will tell...
