In Response To: The n00b's Lament (Long-ish) (TheDrinkNinja)
: I'll put two cents in.
: Okay. Halo 2 isn't Halo 1. I'll be the first to admit it. When I got my first
: try of Damnation at a friend's house a few years back, some CTF on Blood
: Gulch, that was magical. We were all so new, so excited, and so evenly
: matched. Nothing was like it, and nothing would be. I eventually got my
: own Xbox, and played the snot out of single player Halo. Then I got on
: Xbox Connect.
: It wasn't fun. I would stink, and I would have no way to compete. Someone
: would be so precise with a pistol, I would wind up losing 50-3 three games
: in a row. In Capture the Flag games, I would have a two second life span
: if I spawned within a mile of a sniper. I couldn't handle that. Sure, tell
: me that I suck. You're probably right, but that still doesn't change the
: fact it wasn't fun. I tried Split-Screen with some friends a few months
: before H2, and I would up holding them off the same way. Halo 1 was built
: for people who could study and play the game like it was an art. It was
: fun for those who were good, not for the newbies.
: This time, though, it's different. I threw a pseudo launch party with a few
: guys from my school. Single Flag Headlong was some of the wildest fun I've
: had ever. Zanzibar was tight and intense. Ninjanaut on Waterworks was a
: stellar game of cat and mouse. It was fun and fair again. If I got on a
: run with a sword, someone could pin me down with dual SMGs and I would
: trade off. If I got a rocket launcher, someone could dash me with a ghost
: and I would pay. It was like I hoped Halo 1 could be for me.
: I understand why these professional players are annoyed, and they have every
: right to be. But think of the poor newbie in the Chicago suburbs you would
: put three bullets into every game. Think how he wished he could play like
: you, and have the kind of exciting time you guys would. And think of the
: smile on his face that now he can play people no matter what their skill
: with a fighting chance. Really, that's all we asked for. A chance to have
: fun.
: Bungie delivered.

Well said. Professional players need to mellow out, seriously. They're just angry CS nerds. Who gives a shit about the pistol, play with some other weapons. The game's meant to be fun not all hardcore.
