In Response To: What I want in a rerelease (VikingBoyBilly) : This is my list of demands for a marathon trilogy anniversary releasse: 0.
: 1. Make a "director's cut" revitalizing all the dropped features
: 2. Make scenarios more editable by giving us the ability to add more
: 3. Put the M1 sprites back into M2 and Infinity, and maybe add some more
: 4. Bring back the M1 pfhor textures in the rest of the trilogy. Please. M2's
: 5. Improve the engine so we don't have to build everything in the maps out of
: 6. Make the cyborg controller pfhor more of a 'boss' in that it can be
: 7. If Marathon 4 will actually be a thing, DO NOT MAKE MARATHON 4 MODERN AND
That actually sounds very good. Don't see why we can't have my stupid one (in hindsight) taped on as a stand-alone expansion like Far Cry 3: Blood dragon. but yours is definitely better for the main games themselves. I did mention that they should have a classic mode returning the M1 or XBLA sprites over the models but maybe the models should only remain as an official Bungie plugin or even a cheat code unlocked Hats off to 819 style. Also I didn't word it very well in my previous one but the voice etc. for terminals in both SO and Durandal etc. would play only if the player wanted alongside the text as an aid for people who either can't or have trouble reading. the more fancy 2D zoom to 3D Holo-maps on the terms could also be an optional extra, but off by default so skimming or ignoring the terms could be preserved. I have to say that a full 3D Marathon would be more of an experiment than a good idea, the closest thing we have to that is Unreal 1. I do like the idea of a 2.5D engine game with as many modern 3D benefits coupled with classic ones that we can get away with. My original hope for MTA and M4 in full 3D was mainly from seeing other great games progress from 2.5D to 3D well like ROTT, Shadow Warrior, Doom 4, and even Duke Nukem Forever, despite DNF sadly living up to its nickname. (Did Not Finish) I still like the idea of parkour coupled with MSOF
Director's cut sounds awesome. Maybe add some new levels too like DLC but without paying for it on the other ones as that ordinary players can still get it by completing terminal based puzzles that test your lore on the old games and how they relate to other Bungie titles. Extra things to add to the engine as well as your suggestions would be: Please let us have more than one liquid per map, conveyor belt physics, killzones (to simulate falling into an abyss. NOT to be abused) climbing obstacles for those who love parkour maps. (they don't have to appear in the actual games but it would be nice so long as nothing goes wrong) cantilevered ledge/bridges without needing to overuse 5D space (not for room over rooms), and video for terminals. (for user maps only). Keep the M2 pfhor textures for BOOMER ONLY in order to tie in with Durandal's renovations. All other Pfhor ships must remain M1 or MI style because they fit the pfhor better. This means that M1 pfhor must be in Boomer before Durandal takes it over. M1 sprites are awesome and so are the XBLA ones. the older M2 sprites were rather clunky and less well detailed than M1's sprites which the XBLA port tried to bring back through HD. just a shame they didn't work in the port itself due to positioning glitches. Still, keep all three to switch between for those who prefer one over the other. Lastly make the multiplayer maps more interesting. the only ones I actually liked the look of in the older games were the Thunderdome maps and one really tall dark map I can barely remember from MI. Hope they make it as good as you suggested. I really do. Sorry for my angry rant before.
