In Response To: Re: i respectfully disagree. (*Ar-Isildur of *WP*)

Let me start by saying thank you for replying more civil and less sarcastic than i did. I usually have a hard time doing this.

As for your E3 2000 argument... i'd have to speculate to reply to this, and i'll do more than enough of that later in this post. I'm sure you'll agree that it wouldn't be hard to come up with possible resons, though.
*sigh* i'd give a lot for access to Bungie's pre-Microsoft vaults and backup copies...

: If you think Halo is just another "generic, pretty looking shoot'em
: up" ... then you've either not played the game, or are too bitter to
: waste my time arguing with. The point about what Halo was envisioned to be
: is debatable. Bungie, as a rule, say very little about their games. A lot
: of the hype was fan-generated.

I've read the reviews, and i've played the game (however briefly so). I'm not saying it's a bad game, i'll go as far as saying that it's an ok game. But it's not the grand game it could have been, nothing revolutionary.
Non-linearity and a huge, continuous world that's not level-based are not only technically possible but were also (IIRC) part of the "official" developer vision.

My pet theory is that this concept was a bit too experimental for the Microsoft guys and thus suppressed. They took the huge Halo hype and popularity (which ensured that the game would be a seller) and wrapped it around a generic, if well-done, Halo-lookalike-game (which would ensure that the hype bubble wouldn't burst after release).
You don't really believe that Bungie was free in its design decisions after being incorporated into Microsoft, do you?

: and here, you express your ignorance of Halo coming to Mac/PC ... which it
: is. Sorry, in a little while, this point will be moot.

Believe me or not, i do hope to be proved wrong. I've been a Halo fanboy for quite some time as well, and would love to see the game on my trusty PC.

However, i think my point shall stand even if that happens (and, sadly, i don't see it happening (yet)).

With some certainty, Halo won't be moddable. The reason, you ask? Microsoft's the answer. They probably won't allow the PC Halo to be "better" than the XBox Halo, for what reason to buy an XBox would remain then? Maybe you'll be able to "hack" Halo, but i wouldn't expect any official modding support.
(At least that's what i'd do if i were as unscrupulous as Bill Gates...)

And you surely won't argue the fact that Halo is the XBox's cart-horse, and that Microsoft made very sure that it would and will stay that way for a long time?

Call me paranoid, but i think Microsoft has killed Halo.

: Thanks for your time. You hold yourself better than most do.

Thanks for yours, i think i can return the compliment. And, again, thanks for being so polite. I was expecting intense flames.
