In Response To: Of Acquisitions and Gaming (Shishka) Wow, this is about the most elaborate version of "look, i'm a fanboi and stopped thinking critically since i cashed in my brain for an XBox" that i've read for a long time. You're saying that Halo would never have been completed were it not for Microsoft's divine intervention? I clearly remember official Bungie statements that Halo was done but for the singleplayer aspect of the game - things like mission scripting and such. There's a high probability that Bungie had already had quite a bit of stuff that "only" had to be gathered together and given a finishing touch to be released as a game. Of course, i won't pretend that this would have been a fast and easy task, and i cannot be sure that my assumptions are correct, but i don't think the picture was as gloomy as you paint it. You're saying that the XBox Halo is the grand game that lives up to the initial developer's vision? Bullshit. It was envisioned to be a completely non-linear game with an unparalleled degree of freedom for the player, nearly revolutionary enough to be the founder of it's own genre. What did we get? Just another generic, pretty looking shoot'em up. And even the "pretty" aspect is pretty moot once Unreal2 is shipped. Heck, even Sacrifice didn't look much worse, and Morrowind just blows it away - in the gameplay aspects of nonlinearity and freedom, too. And you're expressing your gratitude towards Microsoft? For what? For confining a neutered Halo on a closed console system that will never offer any possibilities of user creativity? Halo Mods? Won't happen, too bad. No, i won't let you restrict me in my freedom to post my opinion to this thread. Sorry for bursting your fanboy bubble. This issue stinks and deserves the harsh criticism it gets. | |
