It's the colons, not the quotes.

I automatically skip over them. Most posts have a large group at the top or the bottom, with all the normal text below or above. When they're interspersed like in your posts it makes it harder to read because I'm fighting my natural tendency to only read the top or bottom set of colon-free lines. Swapping colons our for another character sounds trivial but really helps.
