That would be fine, except throughout Halo 1 various characters refer to the soldiers as marines, and since the voice acting is the same Halo Anniversary confirms it-- they are marines, and previously, although it wasn't consistent from game to game, marines had different uniforms than others troops (specifically, they were different from the army troopers in Reach and they were different from the navy guys in Halo 1).
