The reason I would have slightly preferred the Reach 'marine' armor you are referring to is the boots - not because someone started calling them 'marines'. :) Most of the army variants we saw in Reach had no lower leg armor, while those 'marine' models did. And in Halo CE, the Marine models had very similar lower leg armor. It's really not a big deal, but if they wanted to be even more faithful to the original CE, picking that variant would have matched better, in my mind. But like I said. It's a little thing. I'm happy they modified the Reach trooper model accurately to give us the less-armored Sergeants and other slackers variants we saw in the original. :)
