In Response To: Very pretty, but.... (mattroe) I don't know. You gotta look at it in the context of 10 years after Halo CE. We already know where the story goes. It's moot to now try to simulate that original feeling of tension and uneasiness. In fact, doing that would be a disservice to what could have been. Since we know what happens, there's no need to try to pull off the same atmosphere, especially not when you can push it into a different, new, and (hopefully) interesting direction. It's like watching a movie the second time. You can look at things in a new context and, often, it can be an entirely different experience. I hope I'm not spoiling a 12-year-old movie for anybody, but take The Sixth Sense, for example. Turns out Bruce Willis was a ghost the whole time. Imagine if they remade the movie, this time with the filmmakers knowing that the audience knows that Bruce Willis is a ghost. You can now design the movie to enhance the things that play off of that new information. You could have a scene where Cole's mother is concerned about how she can sometimes see Cole talking to himself, when, in the context of the first movie, he was talking to Bruce Willis. That sort of scene would have given away crucial information the first time around, but the second time around, it adds something. Or, hell, take Halo. The first time around, the Flood was a huge surprise. But if you were to revisit that, already knowing what the Flood is, you could get some interesting dramatic irony where you know exactly what's about to happen to Jenkins and friends, but they don't. Watching the original cutscene, you do get some of that. But, if it were remade with the knowledge that the audience already knows what's about to happen, you can put in some interesting things that you simply couldn't before. But that's all to do with the story and that sort of thing. Your issue was with the visuals, but I still believe what I said. Now you know, for example, what the Gravemind is. They could incorporate some elements of the Gravemind into the level design. Nothing gameplay-changing; just visual. What you thought were plants in the first game could now be revealed as parts of the Gravemind, etc. Those kind of things, to me, would be really, really interesting to see. Although, if your complaint is that you simply don't like the visuals or the color palette or whatever, then I can't change your mind. But I hope 343 did put in these sort of details that only make sense in this new context. Actually, the Terminal did take advantage of the new context exactly as I was describing. We got to see more information that either would have made no sense or would have spoiled a lot of things had it been in CE - namely, that GS saw the PoA land, scanned it, and knew what humans were. It also had that ironic moment where GS tells the PoA that he'll come meet it at their landing point. Obviously the crew on the ship didn't get that message. If they had, the first 6 missions of Halo wouldn't have happened. Stuff like that adds a lot of depth to the story without fucking with the canon. o hey its a post by ibeechu i bet its 10 times longer than it had to be
