In Response To: Re: A thought that could blow your mind... (Leisandir) : I love Marathon's story. I enjoy playing Marathon, but not nearly as much as : I enjoy reading the story page at MBO. I've enjoyed experiencing Halo as : it unfolded, but I think the really good parts of the story have been : transcribed, extrapolated, or debated on the story pages and forums, : rather than being at the forefront of the games and books. I scoured the story page endlessly (literally hours and hours) even before my first posts on this forum, and I was 13. At 21 now, I'm still amazed at all the new things I'm always finding out.Things such as Lekgolo diets, and the velocity of a MAC round... It's all stuff that excites me. The universe is great, and people who think the games are the core of the franchise honestly don't "get it". That's part of the reason I consider Fall of Reach superior to Reach as far as canon is concerned; there's just years and years of information backing up what's already come before Reach. You don't whitewash all of that because a developer thought the 99% of people who bought the game wouldn't care enough to notice. This is MY Star Wars. My own Star Trek. I grew up with the fiction behind the fiction, and I'll be damned if a few wrong dates and events are going to screw all of that up. Fall of Reach laid the groundwork. It was my Ender's Game (well, besides Ender's Game), and there are many ways to adapt Reach's interpretation of events to fit canon. I'm even willing to accept that the books got a lot of things wrong, but that's because of their interpretation (Elites had been seen before, okay, John just never saw one in person before. 30 years without running into a specific murderous species isn't unheard of when you're on the other side of the galaxy.) It all comes down to interpretation, but it slightly annoys me that people don't see the full picture and vehemently denounce anything besides the games.
