Long Night of Solace : was stealthed, and entered virtually undetected aside from a few : gravitational and spacial anomalies noticed (but not properly correlated) : by Halsey, while the Covenant fleet depicted in the book still arrives on : the 30th with no intentions of being stealthy. But clearly the fleet of ships that jumped after LNoS was a fleet not being stealthy, below is a transcript of the scene: "A sudden rupturing noise is heard. * Auntie Dot (COM): "Slipspace rupture detected." Dot switches to a new NAV Beacon, which shows multiple Covenant ships dropping out of slipspace. * ATC 1 (COM): "Gamma Station Control, reading multiple pings below the Orbital Defense Grid!" * Auntie Dot (COM): "Slipspace rupture detected." * Sergeant: "Yeah, we're picking up anomalies too-" * Anchor 9 (COM): Are you reading this?" * Auntie Dot (COM): "Slipspace rupture detected." More and more Covenant ships drop out of slipspace. * Anchor 9 (COM): "Multiple Covenant signatures!" * Auntie Dot (COM): "Slipspace rupture detected." * Anchor 9 (COM): "Does anyone have a visual?" * ATC 1 (COM): "They're everywhere!" * Auntie Dot (COM): "Slipspace rupture detected." * Navigation Beacon (on-screen) : "SIGNAL LOST" * ATC 3 (COM): "Oh, this can't be happening!" * Holland (COM): "Must be the whole damn Covenant fleet!" * Auntie Dot (COM): "Slipspace rupture detected." " This seems pretty damn urgent and not stealthy at all. Which brings me to a question of if it's truly a first wave (not counting the Supercarrier and Refueling Ship) on the 14th and not THE WAVE, How is it possible of keeping Reach or any majority of the UNSC forces from noticing Covenant that close to your planet. Even the civilians on the planet, wouldn't they see huge explosions from the battle with these ships in orbit? (IE: Earth) It seems absolutely counter productive to keep the planet in the dark instead of quickly mobilizing forces in system already as well as quickly starting evacuations. Especially if following the quote of that video, "...the first signs of a Covenant invasion force would arrive at the planet's doorstep. Dwarfing their previous numbers and shattering any hope for victory the UNSC had held." But no...it took until August 30th for them to finally muster the need to go on high alert and recall the ships back only then... "On August 30th, 2552, The planet's demise which had only been rumored about till that day, finally became a reality. A Covenant Support fleet larger than any ever witnessed, arrived to crush any remaining UNSC defenses, and bring an end to the battle once and for all." My brain hurts, but I guess we should go with that explanation (no matter how haphazardly it may have been come up by). The first fleet arrived on the 14th then the final support fleet on the 30th. Is it safe to say that both "Condemned" and "Highlands" shown in the video occur on August 30th? I plan on explaining these maps in my Machinima when the time comes. Thanks for the help/links, because it's hard trying to set a story in the existing canon if these things aren't solid. Looking forward to showing my work!
