Some might argue that it makes Halo: Reach's discrepancies that much more tragic since they had three years on it. But it doesn't make much sense to attribute the validity of some story details to one or two people or this or that group when several dozen individuals over the span of a decade have contributed to the universe as a whole on multiple artistic levels - writers, artists, programmers all influenced it in some way. Just because we see Joseph Staten or Eric Nylund next to a story credit doesn't mean it's all them in any instance. We're not gonna preemptively discredit whatever 343 does and let nostalgia cloud our judgment just because they're not Bungie, are we? Maybe the only objective stance we can take is that since FoR came first, maybe it should take precedent in the canon (I'm suggesting that strictly on the basis of the chronology, not the quality of the writing). Then, H:R is either a partial retcon or, perhaps more leniently, just incorrect on a few details. I think some additional writing/corrections down the road can adequately bridge the two works. No biggie. This type of thing happens with all kinds of serial fiction if it sticks around long enough and it's kinda nutty to see people worked up over a few timestamps.
