In Response To: Re: High Charity the Ark (Marv Spaulding)

: There's a different part of High Charity that leads me to compare it to what
: was shown in the Halo 3 E3 Trailer; The top part of it circled in red.
[The "landing zone"]

What if the Forerunner ship is a "key" to the ark, sort of like the Index but on a much larger scale? On High Charity, that one ship apparently powered the whole semi-planet, so it's more than just a spaceship. It's an absolutely immense power source.

So what if the Arc "firing" in the annoucement in the trailer isn't firing at all, but broadcasting a tractor beam to pull the Forerunner ship in for a landing? The massive energy beam the becomes the hookup by which the ship powers the Ark once it has docked, as it becomes essentially a massive two-way connection. And High Charity wasn't an Ark at all, it was just a holding station intended to maintain the "Ark index" (Forerunner ship), though the Covenant converted High Charity for more clandestine purposes.

So ponder this one for a bit- the Halos communicate with the Ark, telling it to prepare. The Index has been retrieved, and even if there is no firing sequence, the backup needs to be prepared. The Prophets leave for the Forerunner ship and entrust the keeping of the Index to Tarturus completely-

Why didn't they wait out the Great Journey with the Index? Well, what if they knew that the Forerunner ship would go mobile once the Halos went into backup mode? You play the game a bit out of order, but Chief gets sucked into the Forerunner ship just in time for Miranda Keyes to actiave "backup" mode and send he and the Prophets off into the wild black yonder. At least in my version.

So in this procedure, Chief has somehow escaped the Forerunner ship before its landing, and has battled his way to the landing site just in time for the docking sequence. Humans know of no way short of Nukes to shatter Forerunner construction (see also: Coagulation base description) so it's feasible the Forerunner ship could survive for some time in orbit, even in the middle of a battle. And especially if its power source could generate shields too.

So the Ark opening isn't the beginning of the end, it's the beginning of the beginning, because once the Forerunner ship docks, that means the Ark is at full operational power and is ready to do its job. Not to mention there's probably an express elevator from the Forerunner ship to the Ark's control room.

So maybe "this" isn't "the way the world ends", maybe this is the way the Ark prepares for world-ending.

Or, you know, this could all be a crazy dream sequence when Chief gets a knock on the head in the game. But still- interesting ideas, all.
