When Cortana was looking at the replication algorithm, she : commented on how much of the A.I. memory it was taking up, and how she : counldn't make any sense of it. : This dark and mysterious code was what had been keeping the A.I. functioning. : The A.I. seemed as though it had been duplicated several times before, : which didn't make sense to Cortana because a "smart" A.I. would : still only last 7 years regardless, since the errors in its code would be : copied as well. However it would make sense if the duplication code itself : replaced the A.I.'s core, which would reprogram the A.I. into acting in : the Covenant's best interest, if it was indeed a captured human A.I. My understanding of this copying software is that it copies everything flaws included. Now I am currently at my desk in work so no copy of FS to hand. I don't remember anything in the text that supports "rampant" hehe.. theorizing that this black code keeps the AI alive and counters errors created either thru excessive copying or in Corty's case.. the inevitable life span issue. The copies cortana made of parts of herself were dumber and got more so with each copy.. Cortana wasn't old enuff to be experiencing excessive degradation given she was only created shortly before FOR for the original Spartan mission to capture a prohpet. I seem to remember she was carry the entire database of information on Halo etc, was unwilling to store this locally due to the covvie AI presence and possible interception, and this was what was slowing her throughput. Someone correct me if I'm way off? (cos every thread I reply to ends with my post :(((( is it cos i is irish ?)
