In Response To: will it go round in circles (Roger Wilco) Ugh. I know most people on this forum will not understand what I'm talking about, I don't know why that is. Maybe stupidity, maybe something else. But I'm going to describe the system as it apears to me for the last time (FLW). Basis orbits Threshold in the same manner as the Moon orbits the Earth. Halo orbits threshold at the L3 position between Threshold and Basis. For the newcomers and the lame brains this means that Halo is stuck at a gravitational equilibrium between the large planet and its satelite (If this still eludes you, think of having a metal ring with two strings attached to it, tie one string to one hand and the opposite string to your other hand. Pull the strings taught. The ring represents Halo. The shorter string and the hand to which it is attached is Basis and its gravitational pull. The longer string and the hand to which it is attached is Threshold and its gravitational pull. If you notice in the game, Threshold is always partially hidden by the ring, while Basis hangs high overhead. This means that the ring orbits EDGE ON between the two bodies. If you dont freaking believe me (or lack the noodles to imagine my description), just go to the bridge and look out the freaking window on the Pillar of Autumn on Level 1. P.S. The ring is actually tilted at a slight angle, so that as it rotates, day and night sweep across its surface. P.S.S. I am very pissed about this whole thing, because this is exactly the way I described the orbital cycle of Halo before the game came out. (I think it might have been a speculation submission, help louis? Where did they all go?) That and the fact that I have to go to summer school.
