In Response To: Re: will it go round in circles (NthDegree256) i'm just going to chime in with what i think... since i don't study this stuff much, i don't really have a clue.... okay, my guess is halo is at a point between threshold and basis, with it's rotational axis pointing through the center of both. the distance from each would be closer to basis such as to get an even pull of gravity from both, eliminating the need for course corrections and therefore saving energy and such. now, from looking at the halo horizon in the game, there is a night and day, which wouldn't seem right with this setup. earth's moon takes a whole month to get around. given that halo's orbit takes the same time as basis' it would seem the day would be several earth days, and the nights the same. however, it occured to me that the planet Uranus (no laughing) is tilted nearly 90 degrees, so i thought that maybe it's the same with threshold. maybe it's tilted at an akward angle, and the moon orbits above it's equator as normal, allowing halo to not only eclipse itself, but to provide in the right situation eclipses from both threshold and basis every few day at the most, resulting in a night-like situation. (basis would eclipse when it is closer to the sun, and threshold on the opposite side of course). now, if the planet/moon/ring system were tilted at the right angle, the eclipses could intersect with each other, causing a longer night, and shorter day. perhaps about the same time frame as say earth is on. since the game is believed to take place in the course of about 36 hours (at least that's what i hear mostly around here), then the day/night problem begins to make sense. the second level takes place during the day, as well as the fourth, but the 3rd is at night. that's a fairly short night (even though you do run around the halo alot, i'm assuming the points are fairly close "timezone" wise as all cortana gives in distance is 300 km upsin to the T&R. then the next night you notice lasts from level 6 to level 9, after which you travel again. all in all the fluctuating length of day and night (though it could be explained by your ever changing position) would support this off balance oorbit theory.. then again maybe i'm just stupid and making up BS to sound smart....
