Generating synthetic gravity on a ring is a duanting task. I just don't see the need. However, taking Cortana at her word...the exotic mterials explanation works the best, imo. To generate gravity you really need to generate mass or warp space in some other way. This would be alot "easier" if halo was a hollow ball and everyone lived on it's outer surface. A single "generator" at the center would do it. On a ring though, you need to "generate" a "band" of "gravity" outside the ring.
This same problem would arise on a Dyson Sphere. The only other option would be to "generate" a massive "anti-gravity field" at the center of the ring. In effect, pushing everything outwards.
A simple experiment for the mathematically un-challenged: determine halo's rate of spin to discern the "gravity" felt at it's surface. From the bridge of the PoA one can see halo spin and either watch one full revolution or a fraction thereof and multiply. Then there is a bunch of math...and viola: Gravity at Halo sealevel = ?
