only one glitch -- the view from Halo in "as the world turns" always shows Basis & Threshold on the same side of the ring, whereas all views in the game show Threshold on one side & Basis on the other. this, and the orientation of the Control Room holo map, lead me to think that Halo orbits at L1. granted this is an "unstable" Lagrange point, but with constant course correction, stability could be maintained.
other details of the game views could be interpreted as supporting an L1 orbit with constant maintenance: in some levels, Threshold sits mostly above the ring horizon, in others slightly below. Basis shifts is position relative to the ring slightly in each level. these observations lead me to theorize that Halo has an automated orbital maintenance system that keeps it stable at L1, but not absolutely locked into a single position. perhaps the blue beam emissions are part of this system? there are massive circular patterns on the outside of the ring as well, which could be interpreted as arrays of "maneuvering thrusters" on a massive scale.
the L1 position would also tend to equalize gravitic stress due to differential tidal effects from both Threshold and Basis, which would be problematic for a 10K km structure positioned at either L4 or L5.
