In Response To: Re: Videogames can tell very effective stories. (Cody Miller) : Picture's worth a thousand words. Ever hear that? Visuals are a great way to : tell a story. Pictures don't move, and trite clichés are not effective arguments. Imagery can be effective. That is my point. Anything can be effective. There is nothing inherent to a particular medium that makes it good or bad at telling stories, it's all in the doing. : That's right! And just because video games can't tell stories doesn't make
: I'm not writing it off, and in fact I hold video games as the highest artform
Fact: a piece of information presented as having objective reality (Merriam-Webster, 5th definition). You saying it does not make it so. If you're going to claim that it is impossible for a videogame to tell a story (not tell it well or poorly, but at all), then there is no discussion to be had here. You're delusional. It is a fact that videogames have told stories. : Maybe it is best to just wait till my paper is done which will explain this
Thanks, but I don't think I need you to explain anything to me. I - and, I imagine, this entire community - get that you don't think story is important for a videogame. Clearly, many people disagree with you. That's fine. I don't like puzzle games, I love RTS, and I think that most multiplayer is shit. I know that other people disagree with me. I don't feel the compulsion to tell them that their opinions and tastes are wrong. If you don't want story in your games, that's fine. Don't tell us what we should like. Just because you can write vast sums of words on a topic does not make you correct, and it doesn't make those who disagree with you stupid.
