Shackling the game design with story. Shackling : the story with game design. That sort of thing. . . . but I think that exploration is fantastic game mechanic. It's one of the main things that drew me to the first Halo - exploration of physical locations and of the supporting story. As much fun as shooting Elites and Grunts can be, I was far more impressed with looking around the canyons and hills, and exploring the ancient hallways. Everything Bungie's said about their new game has me excited that they're going to create a universe that is fun to explore in both the physical and intellectual senses. Beyond that, Bungie knows how to make a good game. Now that they aren't making Halo, they're not constrained by the expectations of that series - they could make an over-the-shoulder game, an RPG, an RTS, or something that doesn't fit nicely into any of those categories. At this point, we don't know anything about it. Until we get some details, chill out and be hopeful.
