In Response To: Re: Curious, re ILB canon (General Vagueness) : That's not true. There are translation programs out there that are really : good but they still miss things and they're not easy to write. Which supports my point that 'translating' the human brain into an electronic form doesn't mean everything within the resulting construct is understood, let alone flawless :) : Assuming this AI automatically enters any system it can wirelessly and that
ILB addressed the lower technology of today's internet as it inhabited the network. There's no definitive answer as to what hardware the AI inhabited here either. It seemed to me that existing covertly 'in the cloud' throughout the internet as a whole was the only way to provide sufficient presence to the construct, and the individual pieces were sufficiently distinct to be operating somewhat independently of each other (really, it was a very complex sort of schizophrenia, though that's arguably accurate as well; I believe that theory was tossed around a bit during the ARG). Whether the limitations of our internet had an effect on the personality 'split' or not is unknown, but from a fictional standpoint obviously the internet gave it (and its layers) enough space to operate sufficiently. There's certainly no indication the AI resides solely on the ilovebees website server. The fact it manifested itself on Margaret's bee business website is (AFAIK) primarily due to the subconscious memory of the 'bee sting', the needle containing the chemicals that put Jasmine under - effectively the last thing the human child saw. That memory connection could also be supported in that Durga also subconsciously 'chose' Jersey's machine in 2552 on which to manifest itself, due to Jersey's connection with the Castaway (iirc) and with Kamal (Jasmine's brother). At the very least, 'subconscious' memories in the AI certainly had an indirect effect with the AI actions, unbeknownst to it until the revelations of the connections. The way I see it is that in creating the AI from the human brain, part of the translation process inhibits certain memories and natural human characteristics from the construct. ILB explored the possibility that these blocks could be taken down by a catastrophic event, reconnecting the 'humanity', as it were, with the practical, technological side of the Smart AI. That could pose other moral/ethical problems in the future, which is why the tech would keep those separate... but what if that factor is an element in the onset of rampancy in Smart AIs? ie the 'removal' (or suppression) of their humanity in order to function optimally as Smart AIs, while retaining the complexity and capability of the superior neural networks of the human candidates? Again, another reason I love the fiction presented by ILB :) ...man this thread is full of so many ilb spoilers :P hehe
