Re: 1 million tests per month

In Response To: Re: 1 million tests per month (Stephen L. (SoundEffect))

: It was probably rounded from Penitent Tangent in the first place. Presumably
: Delta Halo was STILL doing test firings (perhaps the blue beams from the
: towers as in Halo 1?) so if he answered JUST as it reached 2.1
: trillion...the coincidence would be mind-boggling. I don't buy it being an
: exact value.

In our world its an exact figure because a guy in Bungie thought it up.

I like to think that the beam tower discharges were test firings. It would be pretty cool because when you first see the pulses going up into the sky you wonder what they are. You are also wondering what the ring is for at the same time.

So its cool if you are actually seeing what the ring is all about: a gun pointed at the head of the universe, and its still smoking. You wouldn't appreciate it at the time but you'd make the connection later when Sparky(?) says his line.

1.2 trillion seems a bit low. IMS Its ~ 22 tests per minute. If the beam tower was firing every 16 seconds then that's just a bit shy of 4 per minute. There would only be ~ 5 beam towers involved in the tests and what are the odds that you would land near one of them?

Unless they mean the other trillion but that's a million times larger. Thats ~ 5 million beam towers. What is the surface area of the ring? What area does a beam tower occupy? How far apart would they be?

The exact figure per minute is 22.83105022 83105022 83105022 83105...
or 22.83105022r
