: Well there's always the thought that a simulation does not necessarily have

: the blue towers, does it?

: Of course, there's always the possibility that Bungie didn't think about 1.2

Do we have confirmation of the purpose of the blue beams? I remember in some interview somewhere, a Bungie employee was speaking about the difficulty in getting those blue beams to play nice in the game. I thought to myself "Why would they go through all the trouble to keep the blue beams in when they were under such tight time restraints?"

It'd make sense that they were critical to the function of the ring. I mean, in Halo: CE we had no clue as to how the rings fired, so perhaps they were meant to serve as a clue which was later confirmed in the ending cutscene of Halo 2.
