In Response To: S'pht & Pfhor languages (Vid Boi) : (By the way, do the Pfhor fighters have masks or do they simply not
The more imporant question is, do the S'Phpt have mouths? Clearly, they do not have anything that remotely resembles a mouth that we would be familiar with. They obviously would communicate digitally, be it by RF, microwave, optical or some yet-to-be invented means. The question, then, is that if they communicate their thoughts, why would they have a need for syntactic language in the first place. What purpose would there be in a written language for a species that is cybernetic and probably always communicated as such. And would there even be a way to pronounce S'Pht? Was it ever a spoken language? In making this discussion, it is important to remember that the S'Pht we know were genetically reengineered by the Pfhor and that they were structurally quite different before their enslavement. All of the evidence in the game suggests that they themselves were engineered by the Jjaro from native live forms such as the F'lickta, which do have mouths and make verbal sounds. Perhaps the Jjaro built on their existing crude verbal communcations to create a spoken language as a first step toward developing a native communications strategy for the S'Pht. Or perhaps the S'Pht language is actually Jjaro or a variation of Jjaro - after all, the Jjaro had to have some means of communicating with their servants. |
