Otherwise the romanized spellings would be completely meaningless, since our alphabet is based on sound. Perhaps the translator program simply bases the spellings on the way the original S'pht written characters *look*? ;-) Look at it another way: if the S'pht written language doesn't take a spoken form in at least some sense, why does the translator take the trouble to spell something like "Narhl" as a pronouncable word instead of "sb421fsd" or any other string of symbols? Kinda like the joke in the Matrix: if we don't know what chicken tastes like, we can't program a unique taste for it. Um, or something. |
