The Timeline, Bob, and You | ||

Ok, I found a few things about the manual text that bug me. Here are 3 exerpts: < With apprehension, the same apprehension you felt three hundred and twenty-two years earlier, you envision Marcus Tiberius Buendia, one of Sol's greatest leaders> < ...you are a security officer aboard the interstellar colony ship Marathon> < The original crew of the Marathon consisted of 50 senior staff, 1150 officers and 24,000 civilians all of whom were citizens of the Mars colony or Earth. Some individuals were placed in stasis for the interstellar journey, but most civilians lived and worked on the ship and raised families there. As the crew aged, a new generation of humans were born and raised on the Marathon. By some, these children were looked down upon and called "Bob", short for born on board. These citizens grew to run the ship...> Now one small insignificant point, if you are a security officer ON the Marathon, why wee you NOT ON the Marathon when it was attacked? Now on to my real questions... According to Bungie's new timeline it took 301 (2472-2773) years to travel 92 (or was it 11.x) light years to Tau Ceti. Unless the human life expectancy has increased significantly (say to the tune of 200-400 years) by the year 2472, then wouldn't there have been more than one generation of Bob's? In fact the ONLY original crew (of which you are apparently one) left would be those in stasis. The manual states that < Some individuals were placed in stasis for the interstellar journey, but most civilians lived and worked on the ship and raised families there> and logically on a colony ship the people who would be put in stasis would be: V.I.P.'s
To that we add at least: 10 Cyborgs (which would have to be disguised as V.I.P's or specialists) ...because IF the cyborgs are immortal or long lived enough to live 301 years without stasis someone would have noticed, don't you think? SO that would imply that IF You are a cyborg, THEN you were in stasis for the trip; BUT why would a security officer (and from experience the term "officer" in this case does not necessarily imply rank.) rate being kept in stasis? Surely security personel was necessary for the trip to help control and protect the majority of the civiliand not in stasis. So, how can you be a security officer AND remember events that happened 322 years ago? Maybe you are a Cyborg and COULD live that long (with biological components?) without being in stasis, but wouldn't someone have noticed? I would gamble that most if not all security officers on the Marathon and the colony would be Bob's. OR what if Leela was wrong (the trip IS 11.x light years) and the trip didn't take that long at all? What if Muller LIED to Durandal and Bungie's whole new timeline is wrong? IF Tau Ceti is only 11.x light years, by doing simple math the trip would have taken approximately 35 years (one generation of Bob's) and the Marathon would have arrived circa 2517, and the attack would have taken place circa 2538. In the newly completed GURPS manual it states that That would support my theory, is that official?
