I think you are talking about the GUI and use of a Mouse in a GUI... right?
The thing that Xerox didn't know what to do with.... so Apple developed a different version of it?
Xerox's GUI and Mouse were used in a completely different way than Apple's.
Xerox had windows that were not controlled by the mouse. These windows were rearranged and resized by using a pop-up dialog box and entering coordinates within that box to tell the window where to go on the screen. The mouse was used to click on Icons... but these icons were actions... not objects. Like "Do this and Do that" type actions... not "open this application I am clicking on..." actions.
Apple made icons that represented actual objects on the computer... aka Applications and Files.
In the end, Mr. Billy Gates took the lead programmer from Apple and told him "make it look and work like a Mac..." which is almost a direct quote (I forgot the exact wording... but it is very very close to exactly what was said.) of what Bill Gates said way back when he stole those ideas to make Windows 1.0
So there ya have it...
