Exactly. I think the problem here is ascribing value to details that exist only for their own sake. The presence or absence of any distant mountains on the SC level was most likely not intended to establish a canonical reason for the island being geographically isolated as a Forerunner design decision. The problem isn't reconciling the new and the old game, it's discarding over-interpreted details from the earlier game. Heck, I went on for months speculating on the gameplay options indicated by the surrender of an Elite in the MWNY video-- that you'd have to take enemies prisoner, guard them, transport them, perhaps even interrogate them. Turns out it was just a cool thing to put in a video :) I was assigning story value to a detail that didn't turn out to have-- and very likely never, ever had any.
