Across a loading zone? Never. :) Thing is, when faced with the need for a loading zone, Halo uses a lot of various techniques. Locked doors are only one of them. I think they chose a locked door here because it made sense to use one, and they went to the trouble to explain that 343 wasn't just opening the door, he was forcing it-- meaning even he was not supposed to be permitted entry, and once inside the light bridge area, the Chief's interaction was also required. Of course, that doesn't mean they can't paint themselves into corners. After all, why does the Chief's touch activate the bridge, but not the door?
