In Response To: Re: Something looks wrong with The Silent Cartogra (Stephen L. (SoundEffect)) : Not increased draw distance. That was a joke :) They could have done what they did with clouds

That seems insufficiently quantified to be your actual observation :) : Now, apparently, my 8 year old memory is shot on that particular detail. : We just see things differently, you and I. : If I only payed attention to characters and plot, I wouldn't exactly call it
The level of consistent detail you require I think is much, much higher than is necessary for immersion. The level you require would be more appropriate for simulation. For most purposes, for an object to be recognizable by its silhouette is sufficient to make people believe it's the same object, and is fit for purpose. Halo goes far beyond that standard, generally speaking, but changes many details that are superfluous for those purposes. To interpret these minor details as being identifying, we're forced to admit that the Master Chief is an impostor and a fraud, that an ONI conspiracy has led UNSC personnel to treat as the same ship several different vehicles, for unknown purposes, and that Commander Keyes had vocal chord surgery. Or, we can identify these inconsistencies as compression artifacts, of sorts, on the representation of the Halo universe that we experience from outside that universe. It may be fun to try and average out the different representations and imagine what parts might more closely approximate the "real" Halo universe; however, if you ask me, since such a composite would actually not match exactly to any of the elements that appear within the games, this composite would actually have less canonical value, not more.
