In Response To: Re: Hm. Where to begin? (Gravemind)
: I guess you're fine with the grossly overpowered enemies in Reach. As for me,
: I'd rather not have my experience in Legendary feel like I'm getting my
: teeth yanked.
: One of my biggest complaints with Halo 2's Campaign was how overpowered the
: enemies were. Their damage output had increased some 60% from Halo 1. An
: enemy that took 10 shots to kill you in Halo 1 with a certain weapon would
: take only 6 or 7 shots in Halo 2 with the same gun. Heroic had become the
: equivalent of Halo 1 Legendary, while Legendary became an exercise in
: sadomasochism (Bungie being the sadists and players who voluntarily
: default to Legendary being the masochists). There's a reason why many felt
: Legendary to be unfair in H2, and that's one of them (sniper Jackals being
: the other). The Cairo Station docking bays wouldn't have been the
: nightmares they were if the enemy weren't so damn overpowered. Halo 3 made
: things a bit more bearable, but that's only because the enemies had worse
: AI than in the first two games and they were physically less resilient.
: ODST's Legendary mode was more fair as well thanks to differing
: shield/health/damage mechanics (enemy AI was improved so that's not an
: excuse for the less severe difficulty like in H3).
: Reach, however, combines massive damage output with enemies that are more
: resilient and have perhaps the best AI in the series. There's no reason
: the enemies should be able to inflict that much damage considering how
: good the AI is. There's plenty of ways to increase difficulty besides
: amping up the enemy's damage output to absurd levels, such as modified
: encounters, which Reach already has in place.
: Of course, YMMV as to what the nominal damage output of the enemies are on
: Legendary. I personally think it should be closer to Halo 1 levels, but I
: imagine that you'd be fine if they did twice as much damage as what they
: currently do.
I simply cannot wrap my head around this argument. If you feel Legendary is too difficult, why do you play on it?
Is it just so you can say "I beat Reach on Legendary"? Because that seems silly, to me. If you don't have fun playing on Legendary... turn down the difficulty.
It's the most difficult setting that Reach offers - and there are still PLENTY of players who say it's not hard enough. There are three other settings that are easier - why should the hardest one be nerfed?
I don't get this.
