In Response To: If you were in charge of creating a Reach Patch... (UnrealCh13f) : The Bungie.net forums are going rampant about how 343 Industries will : "save" Reach by possibly deploying a title update to fix : "Reach's obvious flaws" (i.e Armor Lock, Bloom, etc.) : Is it needed? If yes, what would you change?
In 3-plots, captured territories convert straight to the other team, e.g. blue -> red. I'd rather see the territories go to a neutral state first, e.g. blue -> neutral -> red. How about even return the HUD box icons at the bottom of the screen, like in Halo 2? I know Bungie said they were going to fix it, but it's still awkward and confusing as the red team, since all of your territories are red with blue markers above them and enemy territories are blue with red markers above them. For blue team, the colors actually match. The territories and HUD markers should just stay color-coded per team. That way, it could even be a multiteam gametype. Since generators in Firefight and territories in Invasion have names like alpha and bravo, the waypoints for them really need 'A' or 'B' letter graphics next to them, so when someone says the enemy is heading to bravo, I can easily figure out which place is which. In Invasion, non-battle-bro teammates have transparent little blue arrows above them that often disappear behind obstructions, so you never have a good understanding of where any of your teammates actually are. This arrow is especially hard to see when they're in the air or in a vehicle. This leads to so many friendly-fire incidents because the arrow is so hard to make out against a banshee. In most games, I have to stare at it for a few seconds until I can make out the red enemy name or transparent teammate icon, just so I can figure out whether it's friendly or not. I have no idea why Bungie didn't change this after the beta and just make the arrows opaque and always-on. Also in Invasion on Boneyard and Spire, being on the offense in phase 1 just isn't fun. Offensive spawns need to be moved up closer to the territories, like in Breakpoint. Also, they should have a bit more choice in spawn points, or even make two teams of three battle bros each, instead of three teams of two. If your battle bro quit or is AFK, you're pretty much useless, since it takes half a minute just to get to a territory, and you're subject to spawn-killing and NR/DMR fire along the way. In Boneyard, the scorpion should spawn much less frequently, and the core should be moved to a slightly less defensible position. It's just too easy to defend when Spartans get frequent scorpions, all sorts of heavy weapons (which are more effective than any of their covie counterparts), and shotgun and grenade launcher loadouts in close-quarters. In games like CTF, there is no longer any visual indicator of when the flag is stolen or dropped. If you didn't hear the audio warning (which doesn't always activate) that your flag was taken, you may not even notice. I remember one match of Invasion Boneyard where the Elites took the core as soon as it spawned and made it most of the way to the capture point before anyone noticed it was missing. Halo 1, 2, and 3 all had indicators, so I don't understand why not Reach. And yet another issue not fixed from the beta: vehicle health meters, or more preferably, return to Halo 3-style vehicles. The visual indicators are unreliable, and even if they were reliable, vehicles still feel pretty weak. Bungie said they moved to Reach's system because vehicles were too dominant in Halo 3, but Wraiths, warthogs, ghosts, choppers and mongooses were all just fine in Halo 3. The banshee could be more vulnerable, and the scorpion is overpowered by design, but those problems can be easily dealt with (Bungie, don't put every vehicle you can in a map. Just a pair of warthogs, maybe a pair of mongooses and a ghost are all Hemorrhage needs, not a revenant and a wraith, too.).
