In Response To: Re: When life gives you canon, make cannonade (Stephen L. (SoundEffect)) : Well written, Narc. I agree with almost all of this. Ditto. Not in complete harmony with Narc's words, but for the most part, yes, I agree that when you are making something with the audience in mind, it would be foolish to say something like "it's canon whether everybody absolutely hates it or not." I think that it would be best to be more like Gumby than granite when it comes to deciding what is and isn't canon, based on fan response. On the other side of the coin, I think that that ZeroPunctuation dude said something about fans being whiny, self-absorbed something-something-something-or-others and that you can never make all of them happy. It's obvious that you're not going to make them ALL happy... I guess that the safest thing you can do is make sure that the "Halo-ness" of Halo doesn't get diluted or changed in any way, while still moving forward into the future. When people really really like something, they usually only want to see small and/or measured changes over time, with maybe a bombshell of an event every once in a while. Take your favorite TV series, for example. You sit down to watch every new episode because you know that most of the experience will be familiar, some of it will not (that's the newness factor), and there's always the slight possibility that something crazy will happen (it's not so predictable that you begin to enjoy it less with each new episode). I think that that formula shines true in a franchise as well. Especially one as closely tied to its fans as Halo. Much love, gratitude, and respect to Frankie and everyone involved with getting Halo-related stuff to me,
