In Response To: Re: Halo Wars=NOT a Bad Game, COMPLETELY Canon (Cody Miller) : Sometimes I wonder why Marathon's story was so intriguing... : ... just us, our deductive powers, imaginations, and Hamish Sinclair. : Less is more. Well there was also the fact that everything there was presented IN the game. Really, it makes all the Halo haters' statements about it having no story ironic: they're almost right in the sense that it doesn't have a story. Basically you get enough of the story to think of it as the game rather than a story-telling medium. You want book-quality stuff (like Marathon had, from time to time), go read the books. You want backstory? Get the comics. Side stories? Wait for Halo Legends, the Animatrix of Halo! I don't know if it was Bungie's decision to separate the story or Microsoft trying to cash in on the Halo cow as much as possible, but just looking at their past stuff, you know Bungie could have really fleshed things out if they wanted to/were allowed to, and both ODST and Reach look to act on that inner desire they have to do so.
