In Response To: Re: On Quitting - Extreme Measures Required (DS) : Another bad idea. I don't pay for Xbox live to impose penalties on me for not : enjoying a game. So I should sit there in a match where I'm experiencing : unplayable lag, because if I quit, I'll just have to sit in the lobby and : wait for a better game? Yes, because your quitting imposes a penalty on the players who remain. I don't pay for XBox Live to end up one-on-three in a team match and have to choose between sticking around in a lopsided game or going back to the lobby and waiting for another. I've quietly advocated a "quitter hold" in MatchMaking of two to five minutes before allowing a rematch since Dec '04 if you quit from a match; if you have to leave the game for real-life reasons 2-5 minutes isn't much of an inconvenience, but if you're just screwing around with others it might just tip the balance between staying in the game and quitting like a jerk. (Of course, I had imagined this more as a remedy for "but I only wanna play Snipers on Lockout" quitters... I suppose if the network kicked you for unacceptable lag the hold shouldn't apply, though I wonder if this'd just lead to more quit-by-standby.) -- Steve's wondering at all the spoiled brats out there wanting nothing but their way all the time; to them, a free hint. It's not possible. You've got to give some to get some, at least when dealing with human beings, and the sooner they learn that the better for everyone.
