The DNA angle is certainly possible, and there's not really any evidence that I'm aware of to disprove it, though not much to support it either. Because I know there are lots of easily offended people out there, I must first preface this by saying I mean no disrespect to anyones particular religious beliefs [end disclaimer]... I'm aware of the fact that humans don't seem to posess any knowledge of their forerunner heritage, but that might not necessarily be true... Think of it like this, the Prophets find Forerunner tech/installations/etc and build a religion out of it, forming what we know of as the Covenant. Humans, on the other hand, write books, stories, fables, legends, myths, (the Bible, anyone? Flood, Covenant, Ark, etc... Reclaimer = second coming?) about their past, their history, their ancestors and heritage. Much of it is changed over time, as stories and even civilizations have a tendency to evolve given enough time, but the information is still there, just needs a little interpretation. So where did all the technology go? What happened to our Forerunner ships, tech, etc? Again, I postulate that the Forerunners left people on Earth because it was a safe haven from the Flood and Halos, they left them there without the technology necessary to leave, in fact, without much technology at all. Because, much like the Biblical story of the Flood, it lasted for a great deal of time... 40 days and 40 nights. In the Halo universe, perhaps it takes the Flood 40 thousand years to starve... so they leave us (Adam and Eve, in the Garden of Eden?) there without the means to leave, so we 1) don't draw a lot of attention from passing ships etc, and 2) don't leave, run into the Flood somewhere along the way, and inadvertently lead them back to Earth (like what happened with the Covenant), thus dooming what is left of our race. They wanted to make damn sure we didn't leave the Ark until it would be safe, so they left us without any technology and without any ships so it would take us a good long while to build ourselves back up to that point. Sure, it's a pain in the ass to start over again from scratch, but it's a pain in the ass to have to nuke the galaxy because of some damn parasite, and we already did that once (another quote to support the theory, GS says something along the lines of "I don't understand why you hesitate to do what you've already done" when talking about activating the ring)... It's a lot easier to stay hidden if you're a bunch of cavemen spending a few hundred years trying to discover fire and invent the wheel. |
