This is absolutely true, and one of the biggest reasons I hope we never see a Halo film; so much of the setting and story is derived from elements of popular sci-fi in literary fiction (e.g. Starhammer, Iain M. Banks' Culture novels) and cinema (Aliens etc.) that I can't see a film as bettering pre-existing films in their genre (think how many times 20th Century Fox have tried to out-do Aliens, and still can't get it right). Where fiction is concerned it's arguable there's no such thing as an original idea anyway...
