In Response To: The moral dilemmas of a fanfic author (Jillybean)

You know, I almost had as a footnote to a previous post that Louis should pull all his fanfics from the site, as they are an IP violation, but I thought that given the tone of my post it might be interpreted as a snide remark (which I wouldn't want, given my respect for the site). But I think you're right in that fan fiction as a whole treads along a very fine line where IP is concerned - if you are a believer in it all.

Given that Bungie have published several Halo fiction novels, it strikes me that this, if anything, is the most contentious use of "intellectual property" (the settings, characters and events) from the Halo universe. However, to actually suggest that fan fiction be outlawed is ludicrous, and I hope that in itself should highlight the absurdity of IP "law" as a whole.
