: Given that Bungie have published several Halo fiction novels, it strikes me
How does fanfiction tread a fine line? It is allowed by Bungie, the holders of the trademark characters and copyrighted ideas that fanfiction uses. Also, it probably falls quite neatly into "fair use" since it can be seen as commentary, without a profit motive. I am sure that if Bungie told Louis that they didn't approve of fanfiction, he WOULD pull down the fanfic section, since then it WOULD be in violation of IP. And, if Louis started charging for access to fanfic, which doesn't strike me as particularly likely, or even to HBO as a whole, THAT would constitute a violation of IP as well. -Sep7imus
