"Intellectual property" is just an umbrella term for law regarding valuable but intangible entities (patents, copyrights, trademarks) just like "criminal" relates to acts involving specific breaches of laws or codes (murder, theft, etc) and "tort" refers to disputes between parties (trespass, slander/libel, negligence), and so on.
