That semi-colon should have probably been a period. :) without the protections granted by IP/copyright law, there's no incentive for people to go out and create things. These things exist to protect and encourage creativity, but my argument is that the protection granted to the original author is limited. I would disagree with this immensely, and there is a historical precedent to back it up, too. Read George Monbiot*'s article "Patent Nonsense" (http://www.monbiot.com/archives/2002/03/12/patent-nonsense/), as he explains it far better than I could summarise. We'd never get this one cleared up outside of a court case. Even then, people are always going to have different feelings about this. No arguments there! *George Monbiot is a UK journalist who writes for papers including The Guardian and The Observer. |
