Yeah, there either isn't enough canon, or I simply don't know enough to address some of this. Also don't know enough about how various signals emanate and are detected to know what the likelihood of receiving them is. Space is freaking huge, so who knows. Perhaps the Pfhor didn't consider humanity worth the time, from what they had known about them prior to Durandal's message.

Also, the ship Durandal contacted was a scout ship, right? Maybe it was fairly far outside of the normal traffic area for the Pfhor Empire. Though they had already enslaved the S'pht, whose homeworld was much further away. Can't think of any particular reason for that. Perhaps humanity simply had no technology that the Pfhor needed enough for it to be worth invading them. But a nearly defenseless colony ship, on the other hand, and one that they'd just learned contained AIs more advanced than their own...
